55: New Brighton, The Tower Ballroom
At one time New Brighton's Tower Ballroom was the biggest in Europe, large enough for over 1,000 dancing couples.
As well as being a dance venue the Ballroom was also used to host concerts.
Between 1898 and 1900 the Tower's Director of Music was Sir Granville Bantock. In its later years the Ballroom hosted concerts by pop and rock acts including The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
